The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced comprehensive global broadcast agreements with numerous TV-Broadcasting Rights Holders, ensuring coverage for the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, starting January 13, 2024. This includes partnerships from Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, South America, and the Caribbean, allowing for broader international viewership.
Major broadcasting partners include Sky and BBC from the UK, LaLiga+ (Spain), SportItalia (Italy), and others across different continents. Approximately 45 Free To Air broadcasters, along with beIN Sport and CANAL+, have also engaged with CAF, enabling the tournament to be accessible in around 180 countries.
Interest is significant, with nearly 6000 media accreditation applications, marking a 100% increase since the previous competition in Cameroon in 2022. The escalation in broadcasting investments is expected to enhance viewership and significantly boost CAF’s revenues, enabling further development of football across Africa.
CAF predicts that the Côte d’Ivoire 2023 tournament will showcase a high level of competitiveness, featuring prominent African football nations. With a backdrop of historic African successes, like Morocco’s FIFA World Cup semi-final position, the tournament aims to further elevate African teams’ global status.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe stated, “African Football and the TotalEnergies AFCON Competition is recognised as being amongst the most competitive and exciting in world football.
