Teams will include top-ranked players and wildcards, culminating in an exciting showdown reflective of the Mosconi Cup’s format.

The World Nineball Tour has introduced a new invitational event named the Efren Reyes Cup, designed to showcase top pool talent from Asia and Europe. Scheduled for October 17th-20th in Manila, Philippines, this tournament honors the legendary Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, a world champion, and influences the sport globally. The event’s format resembles that of the celebrated Mosconi Cup, featuring a team competition between Asia and Europe.

In this inaugural tournament, Team Asia will consist of the top three players from the World Nineball Rankings over the past year, along with two wildcards chosen by the team captain. Aloysius Yapp from Singapore currently leads the standings for Team Asia, while David Alcaide represents Team Europe as the prominent player.

Qualification for the Reyes Cup will occur in three stages, with players being selected based on their rankings following significant events like the World Pool Championship, the European Open, and the US Open Pool Championship. This ensures a competitive team dynamic representing both continents based on the latest rankings from the 2024 one-year list.

Efren Reyes expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am truly humbled and honored that Matchroom has chosen to name this prestigious event after me. The Efren Reyes Cup is not just a tournament; it’s a celebration of the sport we love, and I am excited to see the pool community come together for its first edition in the Philippines.”

Emily Frazer, Matchroom Multi Sport CEO, noted the significance of honoring Reyes in his home nation: “The Reyes Cup sees a dream become a reality… Efren’s passion for the sport has been unwavering for over 50 years; he is the perfect figurehead for this tournament and our sport.”
