Hong Kong’s Alex Jojo transfers to IK Oddevold in Sweden after a strong showing in the Asian Games. The 24-year-old defender’s move may be delayed if he is selected for the AFC Asian Cup. Jojo, who has prior European experience, is eager to contribute to his new club.
Hong Kong footballer Alex Jojo has successfully secured a transfer to Swedish club IK Oddevold, following his impressive performances at the Asian Games. As a defender for Tai Po, Jojo contributed significantly to Hong Kong’s under-23 team reaching the semi-finals in Hangzhou. At 24 years old, he is set to join his new team in January 2024.
Previously, Jojo spent two years with the youth team of Portuguese club Vizela before returning to Hong Kong in 2019, where he played for Happy Valley and later Eastern. His latest stint was at Tai Po, which has led him to this European opportunity. Jojo also has Swedish ancestry, enhancing his connection to IK Oddevold.
Jojo has been included in Hong Kong head coach Jorn Andersen’s preliminary squad for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup training camp. If selected for the final roster, his move to Sweden may be postponed until after the tournament in Qatar. Expressing his aspirations, Jojo stated, “This is an important step for me, and I will do everything to make the club and supporters happy. I feel very hopeful for what’s to come.”
