The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the completion of significant global TV-broadcast agreements with various rights holders ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Côte d’Ivoire 2023. This tournament is set to commence on January 13, 2024, in Côte d’Ivoire, featuring teams from Africa’s top football nations.
Broadcast partners for the tournament include Sky and BBC in the United Kingdom, LaLiga+ in Spain, SportItalia in Italy, Sport Digital in Germany, and Viaplay in the Nordics, among others. Furthermore, beIN Sport, CANAL+, and around 45 Free To Air broadcasters have partnered with CAF, enhancing global broadcast coverage to approximately 180 countries.
CAF has received almost 6,000 media accreditation applications for the event, marking a 100% increase compared to the previous AFCON in Cameroon in 2022. This surge in requests indicates heightened interest and expected growth in viewership, with increased financial investment from numerous regions driving this change.
The increase in broadcasting revenues is anticipated to support the development of football in Africa, contributing to the infrastructure, training, and youth football programs. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe highlighted the competitive nature of African football and emphasized the investments being made to enhance its global standing.
