The World Nineball Tour has announced the Reyes Cup, an invitational event where teams from Asia and Europe will compete from October 17-20, live on Sky Sports. The tournament aims to replicate the format of the celebrated Mosconi Cup and will take place in Manila, Philippines, honoring the legendary Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, a revered figure in the world of pool.
Team Asia will consist of the top three players from the World Nineball Rankings, alongside two wildcards selected by a captain. Currently, Aloysius Yapp from Singapore leads Team Asia after his victory at the International Open. In contrast, longtime Mosconi Cup competitor David Alcaide will represent Team Europe.
Qualification for the Reyes Cup will occur through three phases, with players selected following key tournaments such as the World Pool Championship and the US Open Pool Championship. Rankings from the 2024 one-year list will determine team compositions. Efren Reyes expressed his humility and excitement about the event, seeing it as a celebration of the sport.
Sky Sports will provide live coverage of the Reyes Cup and additional tournaments, allowing fans to enjoy various sports programming including premier league events, darts, and more. This collaboration promises to bring significant visibility to the sport of pool and foster community engagement among players and fans alike.
