The World Nineball Tour has officially announced the Reyes Cup, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from October 17 to 20. This invitational event will feature top players from Asia competing against Team Europe, mirroring the format of the esteemed Mosconi Cup. The inaugural tournament will take place in Manila, Philippines, honoring pool legend Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes.
Team Asia will comprise the top three players from the World Nineball Rankings and two wildcards named by the team captain. Aloysius Yapp from Singapore currently leads the Race to the Reyes Cup after winning the International Open. Team Europe is led by veteran David Alcaide, gearing up for a fierce competition.
Qualification for the Reyes Cup will occur through three stages, wherein players will be selected after specific tournaments: the World Pool Championship in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; the European Open in Fulda, Germany; and the US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City, USA. Rankings for qualification will be derived from the 2024 one-year list.
Efren Reyes expressed his gratitude for the event being named in his honor, stating, “I am truly humbled and honored that Matchroom has chosen to name this prestigious event after me. The Efren Reyes Cup is not just a tournament; it’s a celebration of the sport we love, and I am excited to see the pool community come together for its first edition in the Philippines.”
