Alex Jojo, a Hong Kong footballer, has transferred from Tai Po to IK Oddevold in Sweden after his standout performance in the Asian Games. He is expected to join the Swedish team in January, though his debut could be delayed by potential national team obligations for the AFC Asian Cup.
Hong Kong footballer Alex Jojo has successfully secured a move to Swedish club IK Oddevold following his impressive performances at the 2023 Asian Games. The 24-year-old defender, who played a pivotal role in helping Hong Kong’s under-23 team reach the semi-finals in Hangzhou, is set to join his new team in January.
Jojo, who previously trained with the youth team at Portuguese club Vizela, returned to Hong Kong in 2019 to play for Happy Valley. He then moved to Eastern the following year, before his latest transfer to Tai Po for the current season. His connection to Sweden comes from his Swedish heritage.
Jojo has been named in Hong Kong’s extended preliminary squad under head coach Jorn Andersen for an upcoming training camp in preparation for the AFC Asian Cup. His move to Sweden could be postponed if he is selected for the final squad, as this would involve participating in the tournament in Qatar.
In his statement to IK Oddevold, Jojo expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career, saying, “This is an important step for me and I will do everything to make the club and the supporters happy. I am looking forward to a good season and I feel very hopeful.”
